Majuscule (Biblical Majuscule).
| Scribes:
Μιχαὴλ Χρυσοκόκκης (s. XV)
pp. 1–40; 695–706; 1519–1536,
A (s. IV)
pp. 41–334; 625–944,
B (s. IV)
pp. 335–624; 945–1518.
| Provenance: Alexandria (cf. Albrecht, Überlieferung, 340–342). A Palestinian provenance had been proposed by Tischendorf, and by Skeat in 1999. However, the arguments are not convincing, cf. Albrecht, l.c., 341 with n. 30, and Fraenkel, 341. Codex Vaticanus is already mentioned in the earliest catalogue of the Vatican Library from 1475; in 1797 the codex was brought to Paris, after Napoleon’s fall in 1815 it came back to the Vatican.

Basilius Bessarion, Latin Patriarch of Constantinople, RKG I,41; II,61; III,77.
Codex Vaticanus. Pandect of the Greek Bible (OT and NT).
| Parts of the manuscript have been supplemented in the 15th century: Gen. 1:1–46:28 based on Ra 19 by Μιχαὴλ Χρυσοκόκκης (see Content and Scribes). Codex B was the Vorlage of IV Proph.–Tob. in Ra 122. Codex B is the main source for the Sixtina. Together with Ra S and Ra A, it forms the base text for the manual edition by Rahlfs-Hanhart.
| Collation: LXXGot; HoP (siglum II)
| Text-type: varying text-type.
varying text-type, providing in most books of the LXX a pre-recensional text. With the exception of the book of Isaiah, where Codex Vaticanus (B) is the main witness of the hexaplaric text, together with Codex Venetus (V)
