The Göttinger Septuaginta mourns the passing of Professor Anneli Aejmelaeus, who died on 18 November 2025. From 1993 to 2000 she served as Arbeitsstellenleiterin of the Septuaginta-Unternehmen, and many colleagues remember her as a thoughtful and exacting mentor.

Aejmelaeus was among the most influential scholars in the textual criticism of the Septuagint, particularly the Books of Samuel. Her work was marked by methodological precision and a deep appreciation of the complexity of the textual tradition. In her final years she devoted herself to the Göttingen edition of 1 Samuel. It is a matter of genuine gratitude that she was able to submit the manuscript for peer review shortly before her death – a significant milestone that reflects her perseverance and commitment.

Her passing is felt deeply in Göttingen and across the international community of Septuagint scholars. We honour her with sincere gratitude for her scholarship, her integrity, and the manner in which she enriched our project and all who worked with her. May she rest in peace.
